Art
At Monkwray Junior School, we believe that every child is an artist and should have the opportunity to explore, create and express themselves through a varied art curriculum. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils experience a wide range of artistic activities, materials, techniques and creative processes throughout their time with us.
Using the AccessArt curriculum as the foundation for our teaching, pupils progressively develop their artistic knowledge, skills and understanding through carefully sequenced units of work. Children are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and reflect on their own and others’ work, building confidence and resilience as young artists.
Our curriculum enables pupils to:
- Experience a diverse range of art forms, materials and media.
- Develop practical skills.
- Explore the work of artists, designers and craftspeople.
- Use sketchbooks to investigate ideas, record observations and develop creativity.
- Express personal ideas, opinions and emotions through artistic outcomes.
- Build technical vocabulary and an understanding of artistic processes.
- Foster curiosity, imagination and a lifelong appreciation of art and design.
