Physical Education
At our school, we believe that Physical Education plays a vital role in promoting pupils’ physical, social and emotional development, while fostering a lifelong enjoyment of sport and physical activity. Our PE curriculum is designed to provide all children with opportunities to participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities, enabling them to develop competence, confidence and resilience as they progress through the school.
We aim to deliver a broad, balanced and progressive curriculum that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum while ensuring that pupils continually build upon and refine their knowledge, skills and understanding year on year. Through high-quality teaching and carefully sequenced learning, children develop their physical literacy by:
- Developing fundamental movement skills, including running, jumping, throwing, catching and balancing.
- Building confidence to participate in and enjoy new activities and sports.
- Understanding the importance of physical activity for their health and well-being.
- Developing positive attitudes towards being active.
- Applying their skills across a wide range of sports and physical activities.
Through this approach, pupils improve their physical competence, teamwork, communication, resilience and sportsmanship, enabling them to achieve their personal best and develop the skills needed for an active and healthy lifestyle.
In addition to National Curriculum provision, we are committed to enriching pupils’ experiences through a variety of extra-curricular clubs, competitions, festivals and specialist activities. These opportunities allow children to engage with sports and physical activities that they may not otherwise encounter, broadening their horizons and inspiring a lifelong participation in physical activity.
By the time pupils leave our school, we aspire for them to be physically confident, motivated and equipped with the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm needed to participate in sport and physical activity throughout their lives.
