Computing

We aim to deliver a structured sequence of lessons to guarantee the skills are covered to meet the aims of the national curriculum which also allows for a broad, deep understanding of computing and how this links to the children’s lives. Curriculum coverage offers a range of opportunities for consolidation, challenge and variety. This allows children to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science. Pupils are able to develop their problem-solving skills and will learn to evaluate and apply information technology. It also enables children to become responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information technology.

At Monkwray Junior School, we understand the immense value that technology plays not only in supporting the Computing and whole school curriculum but overall in the day-to-day life of our school and the pupil’s lives. Our aims are to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum for Computing whilst also providing enhanced collaborative learning opportunities, engagement in rich content and supporting pupil’s conceptual understanding of new concepts which support the needs of all our pupils. We want to educate the pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely and to understand that there is always a choice when using technology. We recognise that technology can allow pupils to share their learning in creative ways. We also understand the accessibility opportunities technology can provide for our pupils. We encourage staff to try and embed computing across the whole curriculum to make learning creative and accessible. We want our pupils to be fluent with a range of tools to best express their understanding and hope by Upper Key Stage 2, children have the independence and confidence to choose the best tool to fulfil the task and challenge set by teachers.
